Our memories of the McKinley Cruiser
Many folks think that this was the boat that circled Lake Whalom with patrons.  It didn't sail.  It was originally built by the F&L Railroad as a parade float.  It was so unique a design, why hide it away until parades...so a floating dock was constructed using 60 barrels on the lake and placed it here, mainly for show.  It was decorated with lights too, and made quite a spectacle on the lake during the evning hours.  The 'float' remained on the lake for several years until vandals destroyed it by setting it ablaze on July 4, 1908.  Read the very interesting history of the McKinley Cruiser by clicking the            icon next to this on the interactive map.
